For nearly three decades, Nebel Pössl Architekten (npa) and architectural photographer Hans Georg Esch have shared a collaborative vision. Throughout this partnership, his lens has captured the firm's meticulously crafted buildings—documenting them while revealing their subtler dimensions through his distinctive perspective. Each completed npa project is interpreted through HGEsch's architectural sensibility, as his varied vantage points, shooting angles, and spatial distances continuously unveil new dimensions within and around the work. The atmospheric qualities of space, light, and material that we envision in our designs find their fullest expression in HGEsch's photographs.

His photographs ultimately shape how we perceive the architects' built designs. "Pars pro toto" – the part standing in for the whole – deliberately centers this exhibition around the carefully selected details captured by HGEsch. Through these fragments, the entire architectural body of work unfolds far beyond individual buildings. "Pars pro toto" offers a distinctive retrospective of npa's architectural practice: by pairing archival photographs by HGEsch with this thematic lens, the firm embarks on a fresh investigation into the art of architectural seeing.

Nebel Pössl Architects was established in 1996 by Thomas Nebel and Erich Frank Pössl. Peer Halfwassen and Bork Schiffer became partners in 2012. Following Thomas's unexpected death in 2020, the firm continues under the leadership of the three remaining principals. Hans Georg Esch was born in Neuwied in 1964 and trained classically as a photographer before founding HGEsch studio in 1989. Recognized internationally, he ranks among the world's foremost architectural photographers and filmmakers. His publication "Der architektonische Blick I – Pompeji" appeared in 2024. Beyond this, Esch creates panoramic installations of cities and landscapes throughout public spaces. He is based in Hennef / Stadt Blankenberg.
