Through the exhibition "Material Innovation: Charting the Path to Sustainable Building," the ZfBK – Centre for Building Culture Saxony, in partnership with Kreatives Sachsen, explores how innovative and time-tested manufacturing processes can drive sustainable, forward-thinking interior design. The exhibition spotlights materials created from readily available raw materials—resources that would otherwise end up as waste. Visitors discover how wood production scraps, discarded stage sets, textile remnants, and birch bark are being transformed into viable products. With construction costs rising and resources becoming scarcer, alternative production methods and the reuse of building components have never been more relevant. This exhibition examines these pressing issues through concrete, real-world examples.

The exhibition brings together curated material innovations and the creators driving these projects and enterprises. On-site, you can explore tabletops and hard-shell furnishings crafted from textile waste (Refalett), birch-bark floor coverings (Nevi), and 3D-printed wooden forms for theatrical sets (Addwood and GreTa/HfBK Dresden)—each offering fresh perspectives on practical applications.

The ZfBK transforms into a working innovation lab where students collaborate with industry practitioners to prototype concrete product solutions and applications. Visitors are welcome to observe the creative process, learn firsthand how materials are being applied, and engage directly with the makers.
