JOI-DESIGN MARKS A SEAMLESS LEADERSHIP TRANSITION
The award-winning interior design firm is celebrating a remarkable milestone. On April 24th, its Hamburg office marks not only 21 years of bold entrepreneurial vision, but also a carefully orchestrated leadership transition years in the making. Managing directors Peter Joehnk and Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk chose to promote from within—preserving the studio's design identity and ensuring uninterrupted business momentum.
Those who follow the design industry closely will find little surprise in this announcement. For years, the founders had been preparing to hand over the reins, deliberately nurturing promising talent within their own ranks. Sabrina Voecks, Barbara Wiethoff, and Thomas Scholz clearly earned their mentors' confidence—and will now lead JOI-Design independently.
For Peter Joehnk, the time had come to step back: "Design is living, breathing work—constantly evolving. Our design ethos has always embraced the dynamics of change. To stay current and serve our partners with excellence. A company, too, must remain vital and grow. Now is the moment to entrust leadership to the next generation."
The leadership team considered various paths forward—an outright sale, external management—but ultimately chose an internal solution. For Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk, the choice was clear: "We found the right people. Where? Right here, within the JOI-Design family itself."
"Sabrina, Barbara, and Thomas have stood with us for years, driving our success," Peter Joehnk explains. "They understand our philosophy, principles, and processes as deeply as we do."
Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk is confident in their capabilities: "Their expertise and talent will safeguard business continuity and ensure our partners' brands receive the same exceptional service."
While Peter Joehnk and Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk will remain in advisory capacities, the three new leaders are stepping into expanded roles. They're embracing this new challenge with conviction and purpose.
For Sabrina Voecks, the path forward is clear: "Writing the next chapter of JOI-Design's story is thrilling. We'll harness our team's talent and commitment to maintain our position as leaders in luxury interior design. With our partners, we'll pursue an innovative strategy rooted in JOI-Design's core principle: design by people, for people—thoughtful, responsible, and value-driven."
JOI-Design has earned its reputation as a leader in luxury hotel interior design—building a legacy that demands to be carried forward. Barbara Wiethoff articulates this responsibility clearly: "We honor this remarkable story of passion, design, and creativity. The next chapter begins... We're deeply proud that Peter and Corinna have placed their trust in us. They've given us far more than confidence: they've instilled in us the core principles of a distinct design philosophy that will guide our work going forward."
For Thomas Scholz, the watchword is continuity. "It's a tremendous responsibility to lead such a respected, distinctive design practice as JOI-Design. The beauty of a seamless transition is that our clients and partners experience no disruption—and can expect nothing less than the caliber of work they've always received," Scholz concludes.
