Living Together, Differently: New Housing Models in Denmark
Exhibition at the Nordic Embassies, Berlin
Father, mother, child, child. We still design most buildings around this traditional family structure, despite Denmark now recognizing 37 different family forms. Germany's trajectory mirrors this shift. Today, Denmark is actively reimagining residential living – exploring housing models that foster new kinds of communities. For blended families. For single parents. For seniors. For traditional nuclear families. Often this means fewer square metres per person – yet more space for genuine community and smarter resource use. This evolution matters urgently for the building sector, which generates over a third of our CO2 emissions, for our increasingly crowded cities, for addressing the epidemic of loneliness, and for honoring the diverse family structures that define us today.
Starting Tuesday, 16 July, seven groundbreaking Danish architecture projects showcase a different approach to building and living in "Living Together, Living Well. Rethinking Housing in Denmark" at the Felleshus (Community House) of the Nordic Embassies. The Royal Danish Embassy invites you to the opening reception on 16 July at 6:30 p.m.
