Who were Munich's female architects? Largely overlooked and rarely documented, "WOMEN BUILD Munich" showcases outstanding architectural works created by women in Munich and brings their stories to life. On view at Architekturgalerie München through November 21, the exhibition celebrates 14 pioneering female architects who shaped Munich's built environment between 1930 and the 1990s—before the digital age transformed the profession. Across an exhibition, website, and publication, 36 buildings are presented through photographs, drawings, and detailed project documentation, alongside the architects' personal and professional narratives. Together, these materials reveal the creative contexts and influences that shaped their work. WOMEN BUILD Munich represents a crucial shift toward a more inclusive and equitable history of architecture—one that acknowledges the collaborative nature of architectural creation. The project also offers vital insights for contemporary practice and education, highlighting the multiple layers of participation and responsibility that define the design process. The exhibition includes a listening space featuring conversations with today's practicing female architects, who reflect on these same questions and challenges. Their diverse perspectives—as much as the historical accounts they complement—may well be the most valuable lesson for architectural education and practice today.
