Erich Mendelsohn Prize 2026 for Brick Architecture

Call for Entries Now Open

A celebrated tradition continues: the prestigious Erich Mendelsohn Prize for Brick Architecture returns for its seventh edition. Once again, the focus is on exceptional projects that harness the architectural potential of brick as a time-tested building material for contemporary design. The previous competition, held every three years, attracted more than 600 entries from 30 countries. Submissions for the 2026 Erich Mendelsohn Prize for Brick Architecture are now open from January 5 through April 30, 2026. Projects can be submitted online at erich-mendelsohn-preis.com. The entry fee is €349; emerging architects and students continue to be exempt from this fee.

The Newcomer Award—a dedicated category for emerging architects—is being presented this year in collaboration with the architecture magazine DETAIL. The 2026 Erich Mendelsohn Prize will be awarded across the following categories:
• Residential Construction / Multi-Family Housing
• Public Buildings, Leisure & Sports
• Office & Commercial Buildings
• Single-Family & Semi-Detached Houses

Additional honors will be awarded for:
• Renovation / Recycling / Energy Efficiency / Sustainability
• Best in Germany

Projects that exemplify Germany's rigorous standards for ecological sustainability will receive special recognition through the new "Best in Germany" award at the 2026 Erich Mendelsohn Prize for Brick Architecture. All buildings completed in Germany are eligible for this distinction, regardless of where the architecture firm is based. Brick projects completed on or after January 1, 2021 are eligible for submission. Projects previously presented for the 2023 award may be resubmitted if they were completed after January 1, 2021 and have not already been nominated. The jury composition will be announced in the coming weeks. The award ceremony will take place in Berlin in autumn 2026.
