The German Sustainability Award is Europe's leading prize for environmental awareness and social commitment. In 2024, pioneering companies from various sectors will be honored with an award. Troldtekt is nominated in the Construction and Real Estate category. This year, the team behind the German Sustainability Award is honoring companies that have successfully embarked on the long, complex path to sustainability. Troldtekt is one of the nominees competing for the prestigious awards, which will be presented at a ceremony in Düsseldorf on November 28. "We can pat ourselves on the back: our hard work has paid off and we have made it into the circle of nominees. We are proud of this because it shows that we have achieved something important and right with our ongoing strategy," says Tina Snedker Kristensen, Head of Sustainability and Communication at Troldtekt.

The Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. awards the prize in cooperation with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection and the WWF. PwC Germany and the Centre for Sustainable Management (CSM) at Leuphana University Lüneburg helped to select the nominees in the company category. Troldtekt is represented here in the "Construction and Real Estate" category and specifically in the "Cement, Concrete and Building Materials" sub-category.

The linchpin of Troldtekt's work is the Cradle to Cradle design concept. Today, all of Troldtekt's wood wool lightweight panels are Cradle to Cradle Certified® at Gold level.
As early as 2012, Troldtekt decided to use the circular Cradle to Cradle principles as the basis for its business strategy. This has resulted in a number of concrete measures that have had a major impact on both the company and its customers.
The team behind the German Sustainability Award justifies Troldtekt's nomination by the fact that the acoustic panels are Cradle to Cradle Certified® and contribute to leading certifications of buildings.

- that all the wood in the acoustic panels is certified to leading standards for responsible forestry (FSC® C115450 and PEFC).

- that Troldtekt demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility with annual CSR reports and environmental product declarations (EPDs) for individual products.

- that Troldtekt optimizes the life cycle of the product in order to minimize the environmental impact and increase resource efficiency. For example, with the introduction of acoustic panels based on the CO₂-reduced cement type Futurecem.

And it was precisely the Troldtekt panels based on Futurecem that won the German Sustainability Award 2023. The solution won in the "Design" category. "The new acoustic panels from Troldtekt impress with a reduced CO₂ footprint of 30 percent compared to comparable products," said the jury at the time. Specifically, Troldtekt acoustic panels based on Futurecem have a CO₂ footprint over their entire life cycle that is 26 or 38 percent lower than that of Troldtekt acoustic panels based on traditional gray or white cement. From 2024, Troldtekt has completely phased out the use of traditional gray cement in favor of Futurecem.

The German Sustainability Award will be presented for the 17th time in 2024 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation. The partners of the award are the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the WWF. The prizes are awarded at the German Sustainability Day, which takes place this year from November 28 to 29 in Düsseldorf. Prizes will be awarded to companies in 100 sectors as well as a number of product and special prizes.
