The German Sustainability Award is Europe's leading award for environmental awareness and social commitment. In 2024, pioneering companies from various industries will be honoured with an award. Troldtekt is nominated in the construction and real estate category. This year, the team behind the German Sustainability Award is honouring companies that have successfully embarked on the long and complex path to sustainability. Troldtekt is among the nominees competing for the prestigious awards, which will be presented at a ceremony in Düsseldorf on 28 November. "We can pat ourselves on the back: our hard work has paid off and we have been nominated. We are proud of this because it shows that we have achieved something important and right with our ongoing strategy," says Tina Snedker Kristensen, Head of Sustainability and Communication at Troldtekt.

The German Sustainability Award Foundation (Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V.) presents the award in cooperation with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the WWF. PwC Germany and the Centre for Sustainable Management (CSM) at Leuphana University Lüneburg were involved in selecting the nominees in the corporate category. Troldtekt is represented here in the "Construction and Real Estate" section and specifically in the "Cement, Concrete and Building Materials" subcategory.

The cornerstone of Troldtekt's work is the Cradle to Cradle design concept. Today, all Troldtekt wood wool lightweight panels are Cradle to Cradle Certified® at Gold level.
Back in 2012, Troldtekt decided to use the circular Cradle to Cradle principles as the basis for its business strategy. This has resulted in a series of concrete measures that have had a major impact on both the company and its customers.
The team behind the German Sustainability Award justified Troldtekt's nomination by pointing out that the acoustic panels are Cradle to Cradle Certified® and contribute to leading building certifications.

– that all wood used in the acoustic panels is certified according to leading standards for responsible forestry (FSC® C115450 and PEFC).

– Through annual CSR reports and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Troldtekt demonstrates unwavering commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

– The company continuously optimises product lifecycles to reduce environmental impact and enhance resource efficiency—exemplified by acoustic panels made with Futurecem, a low-carbon cement alternative.

And it was precisely these Troldtekt panels based on Futurecem that won the German Sustainability Award 2023. The solution won in the "Design" category. "The new acoustic panels from Troldtekt impress with a 30 per cent reduction in CO₂ footprint compared to comparable products," said the jury at the time. Specifically, Troldtekt acoustic panels based on Futurecem have a carbon footprint that is 26 to 38 per cent lower than Troldtekt acoustic panels based on traditional grey or white cement over their entire life cycle. From 2024, Troldtekt will completely discontinue the use of traditional grey cement in favour of Futurecem.

The German Sustainability Award will be presented for the 17th time in 2024 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation. Partners of the award are the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the WWF. The awards will be presented at the German Sustainability Day, which will take place this year from 28 to 29 November in Düsseldorf. Prizes will be awarded to companies in 100 sectors, and a number of product and special prizes will also be presented.
