Body Manoeuvres
Cologne Sculpture explores the limits of the body
Every two years, the Cologne Sculpture exhibition series addresses current issues and developments in contemporary sculpture in the outdoor space of the Cologne Sculpture Park. The current eleventh edition is dedicated to globally relevant topics – be it technological developments in the field of artificial intelligence, the effects of climate change or the challenges increasingly facing democratic institutions. Under the title "Body Manoeuvres," the focus is on the works of eight contemporary artists, all of which were created for KölnSkulptur. In addition to the works permanently installed in the sculpture park, current works by Olga Balema, Marte Eknæs, Julian Göthe, Judith Hopf, Paulina Olowska, Georgia Sagri, Frances Scholz, and Peter Wächtler are on display. All of the artists presented understand their objects as suggestions for experiences, using art as a kind of living breeding ground for experimenting with boundaries, on which the fragility and vulnerability of every organism also becomes visible. Their works are based on the insight that the human world as we know it is being fundamentally changed by science and technology. The exhibition is curated by Nikola Dietrich.
