BDA Prize Bavaria 2025

The Shortlist Is Out

The shortlist for the prestigious BDA Prize Bavaria 2025 architecture award is now live. Out of 108 submissions received, 24 outstanding projects have made the cut and will be reviewed by the jury. Additionally, 39 student works from eight Bavarian educational institutions have been nominated for the student prize category.

Since 1967, the BDA Bavaria Award has recognized exceptional, sustainable architecture across the region every three years. A significant evolution in 2024: the award has moved beyond category-based divisions to embrace temporary structures and transformative projects. Curated by Lisa Yamaguchi and Alexander Fthenakis, and championed by Christian Bernreiter, Bavarian Minister of State for Housing, Construction and Transport, the BDA Bavaria Award 2025 honors architects and their clients jointly. The awards ceremony takes place on February 27, 2025 at Munich University of Applied Sciences.

The selection unfolds across multiple jury rounds. A five-member panel of experts – Lukas Imhof (Zurich), Maik Novotny (Vienna), Annelen Schmidt-Vollenbroich (Düsseldorf), Frank Schönert (Berlin), and Marlène Witry (Stuttgart) – identified 24 projects for the shortlist, with selected works visited during a dedicated jury tour. Following site visits, the jury will confer six main prizes, additional honors, one student prize, and two student recognitions. New this year: a members' prize, voted on by Bavarian BDA members directly from the shortlist. All prize-winning projects automatically advance to consideration for the BDA Federal Prize "Große Nike."
