Düsseldorf Architecture Prize 2026 Announced

Recognizing Outstanding Architectural Culture in the Region

Outstanding architecture shapes cities and emerges where committed clients meet creative architects. The BDA Düsseldorf is once again inviting entries for the Düsseldorf Architecture Prize 2026. This year's announcement marks a special milestone: the "Düsseldorf Architecture Prize" is being awarded for the tenth time, continuing a 30-year tradition of making exceptional architectural culture in the region visible and recognized. The prize serves as a platform for projects that demonstrate what contemporary architecture can achieve today: innovative, sustainable, and with an unwavering commitment to design quality. The award honors not only the creative accomplishments of architects but equally recognizes the courage and dedication of clients who champion quality architecture. In addition to the jury-selected awards, the public will have the opportunity to vote for a recipient of the Viewer's Choice Award, which represents a special recognition of their work within the exhibition.
In collaboration with the Düsseldorf City Museum, all submitted projects will be presented in the museum's major special exhibition space, offering the public a comprehensive overview of regional architectural culture.

Architects and their clients are eligible to participate. Submissions are welcome for buildings of any use: new constructions, renovations, expansions, building complexes, or urban design schemes completed after January 1, 2023, located within the BDA Düsseldorf territory. The catchment area encompasses the state capital Düsseldorf, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, and parts of Mettmann district (Ratingen, Heiligenhaus, Velbert, Wülfrath, Mettmann, and Erkrath). An independent jury will award prizes and honorable mentions in the form of plaques (prizes only) for the buildings and certificates (both prizes and honorable mentions) for the architects and clients.

All entries will be documented in a publication and publicly exhibited. Projects awarded the "Prize" designation will be nominated for the "NRW Architecture Prize 2027," announced by the BDA North Rhine-Westphalia State Association. The BDA Düsseldorf looks forward to receiving projects that demonstrate how architecture can sustainably improve our built environment, and to clients who—together with their architects—set new standards. Written entries must be submitted by Friday, April 24, 2026 (inclusive).
