The Haniel Campus in Duisburg is a place for innovation and creative minds who, in addition to economic success, also have the environment in mind. Not only climate neutrality, but also environmental neutrality is the goal that Haniel and the City of Duisburg are striving to achieve for the Ruhrort port district by the end of 2029. The new Work Inn Duisburg location has been established in this environment, where the spirit of sustainability can be experienced in the design and furnishings. 

Work Inn has set up shop on the first floor in an area of around 600 m². These premises are the coworking space provider's 10th location in the Ruhr region. The company integrates the surroundings of its locations into the design of the working environment and so the motto here is logically "Nature meets Future". As at every location, Dörte Schabsky was responsible for the concept and design. On the first visit, the interior, parts of which were used to store files, still looked like a tube and conveyed a feeling of confinement. This oppressive feeling disappeared completely when openings provided light and the space was divided into spacious areas. Directly at the entrance, you are greeted by an open, light-flooded work area. Opposite, in the previously unusable file storage area, a cozy kitchen and lounge have been created by making large cuts in the brickwork, allowing daylight to penetrate from both sides. Adjacent to the open coworking area is the meeting room, which is given an energizing ambience by the photo wallpaper with the motif of a lush agave. The following offices, measuring between twelve and 16 m², are characterized by a special feature: One wall in each is positioned at an angle, creating an unusual sense of space. Five bright offices measuring between 21 and 67 m² have now been created on the opposite long window front of the building. Between the two corridors are the utility rooms, such as technical, storage and sanitary rooms - precisely those areas that can do without natural light. The coworking area and lounge form the heart of the location. Numerous real green plants provide comfort and a healthy indoor climate. In front of a photo wallpaper with a palm tree motif, a hanging chair invites you to relax, while one of the tables appears to be standing in a bamboo forest. It is not only the motifs of the pictures that bring the sustainability factor into the concept. Particular attention was paid to sustainability when selecting the materials. The carpeting, for example, has a high recycled content and the furniture was produced locally and transported to its destination over short distances. The design elements made from roots, reclaimed wood and glass are also in tune with the dialog with nature.
