Exciting transformation

A dental practice was converted into an open-plan garden flat.

The 1950s townhouse featured a stylish natural stone façade facing the busy street, while the rear of the house boasted a Japanese-style garden. Together, these two elements created an almost surreal contrast between the hustle and bustle of city life and a Zen-like oasis of calm. The clients' wish to transform the ground floor into an age-appropriate, open and light-flooded city apartment thus became a particularly exciting and challenging task for the interior design firm stankeinteriordesign from Euskirchen – especially since the rooms had previously housed a dental practice.

By breaking up the small-scale floor plan of the practice, a spacious living area was created. Wider doorways, ceiling-high glass door elements and high-quality herringbone wood flooring visually connect the newly arranged, spacious rooms. By enlarging a window opening in the dining room and adding a new seating niche, the conservatory, which has been converted into a living room, is now perceived as a fully-fledged living space. The existing floor paving, which is stylistically based on Japanese rock gardens, creates a subtle contrast. Thanks to the large glass façade, the entire living space is now flooded with light, creating a continuous relationship between inside and outside: living space, terrace and garden flow seamlessly into one another.

The newly created bathroom impresses with the special homogeneity of the large-format tiles used and the discreet indirect lighting, which perfectly showcases the high-quality bathroom fittings. The purist architecture and modern interior underline the minimalist furnishing style of the building owners. The selection of high-quality, natural materials in combination with colour accents creates a lively and harmonious overall picture.
