With a view of nature
Modern detached house
When searching for their new home, this young family was drawn to a plot directly bordering a nature reserve. For both the family and architects, creating a meaningful dialogue with nature was essential. The house presents a restrained face toward the street and eastern boundary, but opens generously to the south, where expansive windows frame the tranquil garden. A western courtyard creates an intriguing interruption in the building's form—it shields the interior from street views, dissolves the boundary between indoors and out, and floods both floors with natural light.
The ground floor reveals an architectural signature: doorless living spaces. Rather than walls, the designers lowered the living area on the south side to distinguish it visually from the kitchen and dining zones, while maintaining a fluid spatial connection. A refined polished concrete floor amplifies this open-plan philosophy. The dining area extends onto a covered terrace, while an open terrace adjoins the stepped-down living room. A fireplace anchors the space, commanding views and presence from every angle.
The private area begins with the staircase to the upper floor, which is already evident from the design of the staircase. Like the entire upper floor, the staircase is covered with cosy oak flooring. Once you reach the upper floor, you can see that the inner courtyard serves as a distributor between the children's rooms, study and parents' wing. Both children's rooms face the street and have their own bathroom. The bedroom on the garden side, which is directly adjacent to the dressing room and the parents' bathroom, offers a generous view of nature thanks to a panoramic window. The building services have been deliberately kept simple. A gas condensing boiler with hot water tank and supporting solar thermal energy provides heating and hot water. Thanks to the adjacent nature reserve and the location of the property in a water protection area, the rainwater from the house seeps away in an environmentally friendly manner at the rear of the property in a trough ditch.
