Fluently connected
New design for a fresh interpretation of the classic steakhouse
The so-called Fleetinsel is one of the oldest parts of the city. It lies between Herrengraben, Düsternstraße, Stadthausbrücke, Graskeller, Rödingsmarkt and Ludwig-Erhard-Straße and is crossed by Bleichenfleet, Herrengrabenfleet and Alsterfleet. The Alsterfleet is the old city moat that was part of the city wall from the 13th century. The typical pre-industrial development with its town houses and the rear warehouses on the canals was supplemented in the second half of the 19th century by early office buildings and Wilhelminian-style residential buildings. After massive destruction during the Second World War, the area lay derelict for a long time and the existing buildings fell into disrepair. The city's plans in the 1970s to demolish everything here were prevented by private initiative. Following renovation and additional new development in the 1990s with the aim of restoring the lost inner-city connection between the Inner Alster and the harbor on the one hand and between the old town and the new town on the other, Fleetinsel is now a lively place with a wide variety of uses - from art and culture to hotels, clinics, offices and restaurants.
The Steigenberger Hotel building by GMP Architekten is located directly on the Alsterfleet and opens up on the other side with its "Stadthaus" restaurant to the square between the listed Heiligengeistbrücke bridge and the staircase on the Bleichenfleet. The restaurant and bar, redesigned by interior architects JOI Design, aims to enrich the urban meeting place between the canals in the heart of the city center. With 169 seats inside and 60 seats under palm trees on the veranda, the sophisticated design creates a flowing connection between inside and outside. When the weather is nice, the sliding doors are opened to create an airy and relaxed atmosphere.
The 260 m² restaurant offers a fresh interpretation of the classic steakhouse under the motto "Taste the heat!". The highlight is the show kitchen, where food is grilled over hot coals on an open flame - an experience that brings guests and chefs together. Fresh herbs such as basil, rosemary and thyme, which can be seen in the kitchen, also ensure an intense sensory experience. Cozy alcoves and communal tables with comfortable chairs and inviting sofa benches create a mixture of intimacy and lively exchange. The furnishings of elegant globe lamps, warm wood tones and high-quality copper lamps combine modern, industrial-inspired style with rustic coziness. At the bar, black and white tiles and artfully designed wood paneling give the room its special character. The restaurant and bar are not just for hotel guests, but are open to everyone.
