Dynamic lightness

Office building at Stadtkrone Ost in Dortmund with an unusual façade

A new office building at Stadtkrone Ost in Dortmund immediately catches the eye with its unusual 3D façade. The six-storey building with the bold name "adesso campus 3" is already clearly visible from a distance. The façade consists of staggered, scaled façade boxes made of aluminum composite sheet metal on each floor. The scaling of the façade only runs in one direction and was aligned in such a way that different shadow and depth effects are created on the façade over the course of the day. In this way, the approx. 100 meter long, 34 meter wide and 22 meter high building appears more dynamic and lighter. The vertical structure of the windows with gold-colored elements creates an exciting counterpoint.

The entire façade construction was designed in advance in a 3D CAD model, so that the many detailed points could already be identified in the planning phase, solved constructively and implemented cleanly on the construction site using this model. Independently of this, the planners from Kemper, Steiner & Partner Architekten in Bochum decided to create a 1:1 sample of the façade in extracts at the factory before construction began due to the special nature of the façade. This made it possible to identify and solve further detail problems and to optimize the subsequent production of the panels using a CNC milling machine and assembly on site. The entrance area has a prestigious design with a mullion and transom façade set back in level over four storeys. This allows exciting views into the foyer and the gallery corridors, as well as views from these areas.

The shape of the building was planned as a comb structure that opens up to the south, creating two inner courtyards. Their design creates a contrasting accent to the building architecture. The inner courtyard, which also forms a passageway for the building strings, looks like a framed picture from above: green areas and a network of paths were designed as geometric shapes. The rising building is based on an underground garage with a floor area of approx. 5,000 m² and 150 underground and 60 above-ground parking spaces. The building, which was developed and realized by Freundlieb, has a total usable area of 11,300 m² with flexibly divisible usage structures. Based on the exterior architecture, the interior areas were planned by raumkontor from Düsseldorf.
