Archistories

Architecture in Art

The special exhibition Archistories: Architecture in Art gathers around 100 works by 70 artists spanning five centuries—each offering a distinct perspective on buildings and the act of building. Playful, witty, and socially conscious by turns, these works engage with lived experience, historical moments, and imagined spaces. Together, they reveal how we shape our world today and imagine shaping it tomorrow. Throughout, the exhibition investigates aesthetic, political, social, and ecological dimensions of our built environment.

Paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures from the Kunsthalle's permanent collection are joined by video works, photographs, and installations from contemporary artists. Archistories thus offers a sweeping perspective on architectural representation from the 17th century to today—demonstrating that architecture is never merely a structure, but always a vessel for history and meaning.
