"The Port of Hamburg"
Exhibition opening at the Fabrik der Künste
From June 14 to July 6, the Fabrik der Künste is presenting the photo exhibition "The Port of Hamburg" in cooperation with the F.C. Gundlach Foundation. On display are historical black and white photographs by the renowned photographers F.C. Gundlach, Hans Meyer-Veden, Paolo Pellegrin and Peter Schulte. The exhibition documents the transformation of the port of Hamburg over a period of six decades.
F.C. Gundlach (1926-2021) took almost avant-garde photographs around 1960 - fashion in the middle of the port of Hamburg. His photographs of young fashion in front of rusty steel, tugboats and ships are excitingly constructed and have a timeless aesthetic.
Hans Meyer-Veden (1931-2018) moved very attentively through Altona and the harbor district from the 1970s onwards and captured details with brilliant technique that we would otherwise have missed as passers-by. Many of his photographs are also documents of the port, which has completely changed today.
Paolo Pellegrin (1964) looks at this huge, totally independent "district" and its impressive graphic silhouette of technology and landscape. The photographs convey the economic power of the city.
Peter Schulte (1965) has been collecting views and fragments of the city of Hamburg and the port for over 30 years. His photographs are documentarily precise and at the same time puzzle the viewer: reflections, vistas and steep perspectives convey small adventures that can be experienced and marveled at if you look closely.
Vernissage:
