Best of Architecture Summit 2024
A day of inspiration: architecture, dialogue, and recognition
Over 400 industry leaders, architects, interior designers, planners, and manufacturers convened at Design Offices Munich Macherei for the Best of Architecture Summit. This gathering united the field's most influential voices for a day of substantive dialogue, presentations, and networking—a rare opportunity to explore the future of construction, emerging technologies, and design innovation. Hosted by Jörg Thadeusz, Eva Herrmann, and Prof. Dr. Alexander Gutzmer, the event opened with remarks from Jörg Thadeusz and Dr. Marcella Prior-Callwey, publisher of Callwey Verlag, setting the tone for an inspiring and intellectually rigorous day ahead.
During the opening session, prominent leaders from the construction and architecture sectors tackled current industry challenges. Reiner Nagel (Chairman, Federal Foundation for Building Culture), Prof. Amandus Samsøe Sattler (President, DGNB), Susanne Wartzeck (President, BDA), and Carsten Wiewiorra (President, bdia) explored how the construction crisis presents new opportunities. A standout moment was the keynote by Prof. Carlo Ratti, the globally recognized MIT architect and researcher, who shared his vision for smart, sustainable cities. His presentation on "Senseable Cities" offered compelling insights into how innovative technologies are reshaping urban planning and the critical role data and connectivity play in this transformation.
Panel discussions delved into pressing industry topics, from artificial intelligence's impact on construction to how (interior) architecture influences brand identity—and the promising potential of modular building methods. Each session illuminated how innovation is reshaping the architectural landscape. The "Summit Experience" exhibition space fostered inspiring conversations and meaningful exchanges, while concurrent photo sessions and networking created valuable opportunities for attendees to forge new connections. Featured exhibitors included renowned brands such as Fischbacher 1819, Le Klint, THG Paris, Gerhardt Braun, and Baumschule Ebben.
The evening celebrated the winners of prestigious architecture awards honoring excellence across six categories: "The Most Beautiful Restaurants, Hotels & Bars," "Best Workspaces," "Properties of the Year," "Best of Interior," "Houses of the Year," and "Residential Buildings of the Year." The presentation of top prizes recognized the year's most exceptional architectural achievements, creating a crescendo of celebration throughout the evening. The festive finale gave winners their moment in the spotlight while providing an intimate setting for photographers and continued networking—a fitting close to an inspiring day.
The Best of Architecture Summit reaffirmed what we know: the architecture industry thrives on vision, innovation, and visionary thinking. The day's discussions and presentations revealed the challenges and opportunities shaping our industry now and in the years ahead. We're energized to continue these conversations and collaborate on what comes next. Our sincere thanks go to all participants, speakers, partners, and "Summit Experience" attendees who made this an unforgettable gathering. Mark your calendars for our next summit in October 2025!
