"Architecture and energy"
German Architecture Museum exhibition focuses on building in times of climate change
"Architecture and energy" is the title of an exhibition at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM), which can be seen from Saturday, June 14. The show, in collaboration with Prof. Werner Sobek, focuses on the topic of building in times of climate change.
Buildings have immense energy requirements and cause a large proportion of global CO₂ emissions, both during the construction phase and during use or dismantling. The question "How do we build in times of climate change?" is therefore becoming increasingly urgent. Answers to this question are provided in the exhibition by 23 buildings that are characterized by their forward-looking design. Their interrelationships "Energy - Emissions - Buildings - Architecture" are presented and communicated in detail. Solutions for reducing emissions and energy requirements are made visible, for example in energy sources, material qualities or efficient operation.
The projects have been realized, are located in Europe and their building materials are mostly mass-produced. They are located in urban and rural areas and vary in size, financing and construction task. They include residential buildings, kindergartens and schools. Food markets, office buildings, town halls, public squares or entire city districts are shown. And the question is what impact all this has on landscape design. From simple construction methods and the use of technology to the conversion of existing buildings or the active integration of nature, a wide range of approaches will be demonstrated. In addition, three university faculties will provide an outlook on the future of climate-friendly architecture. Visitors are invited to try out material libraries and get to know technical solutions.
